Sun Yao’s eponymous art book, published in December 2024, has been officially collected by the British Library.
This milestone publication is a culmination of nearly a year of dedicated preparation and coincides with Sun’s large-scale solo exhibition, “On The Waves”, held at the Aurora Museum in Shanghai. The art book offers a comprehensive retrospective, presenting 187 significant works that span more than two decades of the artist’s practice. It showcases key series, such as Body, Face, Traces, Deep Forest, The River Runs through It, Oblivion, To The Stars, River of Entropy, Neverland, Skyline, Eternal Flame, and Inner Universe. These iconic works reflect the breadth and depth of Sun’s artistic vision.
In addition, the book features nine critical essays by seven renowned art historians, curators, and scholars, including Julian Stallabrass, Devika Singh, Hutch Wilco, Raul Zamudio, Kim Ki-Bu, Du Xiyun, and Huang Shengzhi. Their diverse perspectives provide valuable insights into Sun’s creative system, enriching reader’s understanding of the artist’s inspirations, philosophies, and processes.
