Sun Yao’s eponymous art book was published in conjunction with his solo exhibition “Self-Consistent”. The book showcases a culmination of his artistic endeavours, featuring a monumental centrepiece, “Neverland - Landscape,” a large-scale painting measuring 41.2 meters taking centre stage. This landmark work, created over a span of two years starting in 2018.

The art book is further enriched by a critical essay by curator Raul Zamudio, titled “Light Energy, Dark Matter: Notes on Sun Yao’s Neverland - Landscape Paintings.” Zamudio’s essay offers a profound analysis of the series, revealing how Sun’s use of architectural painting installations and dark-toned monochromatic works constructs an immersive, Baroque-inspired theatrical experience.
