Sun Yao’s eponymous art book was published in conjunction with his solo exhibition “Secret Reflection”. The book presents a comprehensive selection of 19 works from two of Sun’s notable series: Traces and Deep Forest.

The publication also includes a critical essay titled “Secret Reflection” by Simon Kirby, Asia Director of the Victoria Miro Gallery. In his essay, Kirby observes, “From Western perspective, these complex and monumental scenes evoke the aesthetics of the Sublime, reminiscent of 18th-century art. They recall the awe-inspiring landscapes of Caspar David Friedrich, the misty seas and skies of J.M.W. Turner, and even the strange spiritual allegories of William Blake.”
